Benetti Stone Philosophy, an Italian home design firm, is offering a unique and environmentally friendly option for tiling surfaces. Called “IvoryDream”, the material is durable and attractive, and comes entirely from tropical palm trees.
Vegetable ivory has actually been around since at least the 1800s, before plastics became ubiquitous. Seeds of the Amazonian Tagua palm are sustainable harvested without damaging the plants, then sliced into “tiles”. According to the manufacturer, IvoryDream is “thin as a resin, can be backlit; it is as light as wood and as strong as a stone suitable for floors, coverings and curved surfaces”.
The tiles are available in a variety of shapes, and come in either a natural light color or a darker “toasted” hue. Visit the Benetti Stone website for more information.
