Making the switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs is a great way to reduce your household electricity use, but the ubiquitous spiral tube design doesn’t work everywhere. Never fear: there are CFLs that mimic the look of traditional bulbs and globes for a more decorative look.
Our favorites, the GE Energy Smart models, are actually spiral-style bulbs within globe-shaped casings – which means users can enjoy the energy efficiency of a CFL with the aesthetic appeal of an incandescent globe bulb. So now you have no excuses – even fixtures that require a decorative touch, such as bathroom vanities or ceiling lamps, can conserve energy too (the Energy Smart bulbs use just 1/4 the electricity and last roughly 10 times as long as a standard incandescent bulb).
As a bonus, the casing of these bulbs might even offer a little extra protection for the CFL inside. Although compact fluorescent lightbulbs are extremely energy efficient, they do contain mercury – – which means you really don’t want one shattered inside your house.
These bulbs are available in a variety of brightness options to suit any light fixture, and each CFL will pay for itself many times over the life of the bulb.
