It’s no secret that an energy efficient home needs to be well insulated and sealed, but targeting drafty gaps in your home’s thermal barrier can be tricky. Well, technology to the rescue: Black & Decker’s TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector is an easy-to-use tool for finding weak spots in a home’s insulation.
The Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector works equally well in hot or cold weather. Just scan the device over the area you want to test, such as a doorframe or roofline, and its infrared beam measures surface temperature. Red and blue indicator lights reveal surfaces that are relatively warmer or colder than their surroundings (users can set the temperature sensitivity to 1, 5, or 10 degrees).
Pinpointing the weak spots in a home’s insulation lets you fix the problem, which will give your heating and air conditioning system a break and save money in the process. The LCD screen also displays actual surface temperature in either fahrenheit or celsius, so the TLD100 can be useful for indoor tasks as well, such as measuring the heat from a light fixture or checking the temperature inside a refrigerator.
