The original Nest Learning Thermostat was a pretty amazing innovation: By automatically heating or cooling a home only when needed, it could dramatically cut wasted energy (and save a homeowner thousands of dollars in the process). And now the 2nd Generation is here – the new Nest Learning Thermostat offers a slew of cool new features.
The new Nest still uses a variety of information to adjust the temperature in your home: motion sensors to detect activity, humidity and temperature sensors, and even weather forecasts received via its WiFi connection. It’s also compatible with radiant heat systems, as well as gas, oil, electric, forced air, and heat pump systems. Even dual fuel setups, like a furnace working alongside a heat pump, can be controlled with the Nest.
The new model offers 2-stage cooling and 3-stage heating options, plus humidifier/dehumidifier control. It also incorporates a nifty “Heat Pump Balance” feature to minimize the use of less efficient auxilliary heat. And all this comes in an even smaller package, a thinner version of the original Nest control module.
