Looking for a stylish, practical solution for a deck or balcony railing? Look no further – the CableRail system from Feeney Architectural Products is affordable, easy to install, and looks great. And it also happens to be a surprisingly green building material.
Available in standard assemblies as well as custom packages, CableRail works great indoors or outdoors for both residential and commercial applications. The type 316 stainless steel cables (in 1/8″, 3/16″ and 1/4″ diameters depending on the project) provide a durable railing infill with a minimalist look (that also doesn’t block your view).
What makes it so easy to install? According to the manufacturer,
“The assemblies are laced horizontally through holes drilled in the intermediate posts of your railing frame and then tensioned at opposite end posts with special Quick-Connect® SS fittings. The prefabricated assemblies are sold in a wide range of standard lengths (from 5 ft to 70 ft in increments of 5 ft) that can be trimmed to a finished dimension in the field. Assemblies may be installed on new or existing wood or metal railing frames.”
CableRail can provide points toward LEED rating as well. The aluminum and steel components that make up the system contain varying amounts of recycled content (up to 94% in some cases) and are themselves completely recyclable. The product has a long lifespan, avoiding the waste of frequent replacement, and requires no toxic finishes or preservatives.
Best of all, Feeney’s Oakland, CA manufacturing plant recently inaugurated an array of solar PV panels that provides enough power to completely offset its energy consumption.
