Traditional gypsum drywall requires quite a bit of energy in its manufacturing process, which translates to pollution and a substantial carbon footprint. A truly “green” alternative is EcoRock, an environmentally friendly wallboard that delivers exceptional performance as well.
EcoRock is produced by California-based Serious Materials, and uses a natural curing process that eliminates the need for energy-intensive oven drying while generating no mercury. It’s also composed of 80% recycled material, primarily from steel and cement plants, and contains no gypsum.
EcoRock is used and installed just like regular drywall, but produces much less dust during installation. The face and core are resistant to mold and termites, and EcoRock meets all ASTM C1396 drywall guidelines. It’s also sag-resistant for ceiling use, and can be used as backer board for tile.
EcoRock is GreenGuard certified for indoor air quality, and it can contribute points to a project’s LEED certification. Learn more at the Serious Materials website.
