Eco-Friendly & Ergonomic: Herman Miller SAYL Work Chair
Designer Yves Behar created the SAYL chair with freedom in mind – both freedom of movement, and freedom from unnecessary materials. The result is an elegant and comfortable chair that earned a silver MBDC Cradle to Cradle certification.
Inspired by the design of suspension bridges, the SAYL chair uses “ArcSpan” fabric stretched over a Y-tower frame. The design provides terrific support while still allowing fully breathable airflow for comfort (like the popular Aeron office chair, but without the steep Aeron price tag).
The minimalist design uses less material in its construction, and also results in smaller and lighter packaging for less embodied energy. SAYL chairs are also GreenGuard-certified for indoor air quality and contain 10% recycled materials, but more importantly they are up to 93% recyclable at the end of their life cycle. They are designed to last a long time (another important “green” factor) and the chairs are manufacturing in a LEED Pioneer facility utilizing 100% alternative energy (wind and landfill off-gas).
Retail prices start at $399, but the Herman Miller SAYL Work Chair is currently on sale at Amazon starting at $339.15 (depending on color).
