We’ve all heard of LEED when it comes to green building certification, but a lesser-known set of guidelines is going strong in the Southeastern United States. The Earthcraft designation overlaps with Energy Star guidelines, and incorporates building practices optimized for the climate and environment of the Southeast.
Earthcraft emerged form a cooperative project of the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association and Southface Energy Institute. The sustainable building certification has been around nearly as long as LEED certification, which began usage just a year earlier. Earthcraft offers resources for individual homes, multi-family dwellings, light commercial developments, and communities.
