Belkin Conserve Insight – Energy Use Monitor
There is a whole slew of electricity-monitoring and power-conserving gadgets on the market these days. One of our favorites is this simple, straightforward monitor from Belkin, which lets you accurately pinpoint the energy consumption of gadgets and small appliances around your home.
When the Belkin monitor is plugged into any wall socket, simply plug in a gadget to see its real-time wattage consumption. You can also enter customized info for your own utility provider, and the monitor will show the monthly or yearly cost of operating the device, as well as its associated CO2 output.
The Belkin is great as a quick reference for home energy consumption, and it can reveal some surprising culprits for energy hogs around the house (including “power vampires” that continue to draw electricity even when turned off). In contrast, the popular Kill-A-Watt energy monitor is an excellent, full-featured device – but it may be beyond the needs of some users, so the Belkin is a great alternative.
